New Plastic Bag Ban Takes Effect

"A ban on plastic shopping bags has gone into effect in the city of Santa Monica, CA, impacting shoppers at supermarkets, convenience and liquor stores, as well as pharmacies. City officials say enforcement of the ban won’t begin until September 1, allowing for a six-month grace period before penalties are levied. Fines will start at $75 per violation, with criminal prosecution possible for repeat offenders.

According to watchdog group Heal the Bay, about 26 million single-use plastic shopping bags have been used each year in Santa Monica alone. California communities, the group says, spend nearly $25 million each year to collect and dispose of plastic bag waste.

While Santa Monica’s plastic bag ban is the most recent to go into effect, similar measures have won backing in other municipalities. Three communities in California and one in Texas have passed plastic bag bans this year. Nationwide, 19 plastic bag bans have been enacted or approved overall, beginning with San Francisco in 2007."

Connolly Printing, LLC is now a fully qualified G7 Master Printer for proof, screen and digital printing, allowing our customers to benefit from the best color management available today. This means that we use the worldwide industry accepted standard G7 process to match color across multiple devices so that your print material colors will ‘look the same’ regardless of where or how they’re printed.

Our proofing systems and presses are calibrated and our technicians are fully trained and qualified to produce repeatable consistent color and images from proof to press, press to press, and even facility to facility.We are proud to join a very select group of printers who have earned this seal of approval, and we are excited to use this state of the art process to meet your printing needs.

The G7 specification is based on gray balance “target values” to monitor and control color. The “G” represents the calibrating Gray values and the “7” is the number of core colors in the ISO printing spectrum… Cyan (C), Magenta (M), Yellow (Y), Black (K), Red (M+Y), Green (C+Y) and Blue (C+M). Using the G7 process means that color is measured with hand-held spectrodensitometers to specific color to obtain a neutral Gray common across all printing industries. As a digital and screen printer who is a G7 Master, Connolly Printing has the distinct advantage of conforming to the most common color calibration in the world, allowing us to provide you with state of the art color management for superior products and services.

As a G7 Master, Connolly Printing can produce G7 proofs that are easily matched using any of our printing processes on any of our many substrates for consistent visual appearance. Being a G7 Master means we can produce proofs that can be easily matched by any other G7 printer, so your files become portable and interchangeable, and we can accept G7 proofs from other firms including ad agencies and pre-media shops and be ahead of the game in getting to color quickly and accurately.

Evironmentally Friendly UV Screen Printing

Connolly Printing LLC strives to be an environmentally conscientious printer and we use Nazdar UV inks in our production of signs. Our Nazdar inks are Ultra Violet curable and are designed to work with our automated M&R and Svecia sign machines (see video). Although UV inks look like traditional liquid solvent based inks, they are completely different. UV inks look like liquids, but they are actually solids. They remain liquid until they come into contact with the intense Ultra Violet light generated by UV reactors. When a UV ink is exposed to intense Ultra Violet light it cures instantly. Our yard signs can be prepared for customer pick-up or shipment directly from our automated take-off machines, thus reducing wait times and speeding the process of getting our customers their signs as fast as possible.

Connolly Printing understands that not all substrates cure at the same temperature thus having our new M&R UV carousel printing system gives us the flexibility to cure at rates ranging between 49 to 400 watts. Our M&R Switchback curing system is infinitely variable and accepts three different types of lamps: "Ferric/Iron Oxide, Gallium and Mercury Vapor (standard)" allowing operators to select optimum curing source and intensity for even the most difficult ink/substrate combinations.

Connolly Installs New M&R's Conquest 6 Color Screen Press

CONQUEST
Conquest is M&R's versatile multi-color UV carousel printing system. Its unique design reduces labor costs by printing and curing up to six colors simultaneously. Since substrates don’t need to be dried and stacked between colors, they don’t have to be handled repeatedly. This prevents dimensional changes to substrates, and is especially beneficial for fragile substrates like glass. Since Conquest delivers finished prints in one revolution, it's possible to do color and registration adjustments for customer approval prior to the production run.

Conquest can index in either direction, and features automatically synchronized gear-driven screen peel and M&R’s patented ink retrieval system. UV cure stations operate independently and ensure uniform coverage by traversing the substrate during the print cycle. Traverse speed is independently controlled at each station. Wattage settings for each station are independent, and are controlled at the main panel. Each lamp has independent wattage settings and is capable of fully independent operation. Conquest’s standard 118 watts/cm (300 watts/in) cure system can be set at 49, 79, 98, or 118 watts/cm (125, 200, 250, or 300 watts/in). Conquest also offers a 400-watt UV curing system and the M&R Switchback™ UV curing system. The optional 157 watts/cm (400 watts/in) system can be set at 63, 79, 118, and 157 watts/cm (160, 200, 300, and 400 watts/in). The optional Switchback system is infinitely variable from 63 to 157 watts/cm (160 to 400 watts/in), and accepts three types of UV lamps—Ferric/Iron Oxide, Gallium, and Mercury Vapor (standard)—allowing operators to select the optimal curing source and intensity for even the most difficult ink/substrate combinations.

Conquest’s optional above-table double-sided sheet locator allows operators to load from any corner for double-sided work. Porter™, M&R’s fully adjustable suction-style takeoff, adapts to virtually any substrate. All this adds up to print quality and UV curing performance simply unobtainable with other manufacturers’ carousel print/cure systems. The product image includes the optional Porter Automatic Takeoff System.
